Where once a war took place, now stood nothing but rubble and ruin. Latent magical energies of unknown origin pulse with ill intent, the remnants of a battle modern history had forgotten; where the earth stood a testament to destruction and carnage. Pillars of stone erected through nothing but spite, while dark clouds roll from a malignant epicenter; the Castle Ruins of Draken. A broken sigil to magical crimes, it stood as the central figure in a myth about artifacts and power.

Just such was the reason why Rundal, Douglas, and Amoxes came to such an accursed land. Their journey had taken days, ferrying themselves from the mainland only to witness how accursed the island was through turbulent waves and lightning storms of unending ferocity. Now all that stood between them and their goal was the jagged walls of what remained, a castle few had ever explored in near three hundred years; but somewhere Rundal had assured both of them an artifact related to their research would likely be found.

Are you sure this is going to be worth it?”, Douglas asked as he tempestuously carried himself over the rubble of the gates, finding himself amid what was left of a once grand courtyard.

Amoxes quickly interjected, “Why? Getting scared?”, his tone full of contemptuous nonsense that forced Douglas to roll his eyes.

If this is what remains, whatever is within its center should very well be worth it, I imagine.”, Rundal offered in his unusually cold manner; his tone drifting through various tones as he took on the stylings of a young female adventurer, a stark contrast from his aging ‘Merlin’esque features only a moment before.

Once, Douglas was upset by the changes, perturbed at how smoothly Rundal had managed to pass through them; but at this point he had seen it simply as the Lich’s second nature. He dared not question him regardless, not after he had witnessed what the nigh immortal was capable of. Amoxes on the other hand, seemed to revel in every transformation Rundal committed himself to, quickly moving to compliment their master on his new appearance;

Beautiful as always, Master.”, though Rundal didn’t seem to notice as Douglas pushed open what was left of the doors into the main room of the Castle, glancing around at what was left.

Looks like a battle happened, can’t tell who won though…”, Douglas offered.
