Biography & Lore

His history is a tragic one. His family was that of the local Warlord, his father Sung Fao. Sung Fao was a well respected strategist but awed and admired as a ruthless and cunning warrior of unmatched skill. He had three children, two sons and one daughter. Sung Na, Sung Chei and Sung Lin.

Sung Chei grew up admiring his brother and always trying to be like he was, at least at first. Sung Na was by far the better fighter, and Sung Chei loved him greatly for it. But he and his brother grew apart as Sung Chei saw more of what his elder brother was doing. He no longer admired his brother as he had, but loved him as family regardless.

The family was called The Tigers of Xian Kin, his father was titled The White Tiger of Xian Kin, as the Warlord had been called for twelve generations. This came from the story of one of their ancestors, a boy who had barely come of age was hunting with his father, who was slain by a white tiger. The boy, Sung Gūn, took his spear and slew the great beast, and wore it's skin as a cloak upon his reentry into the city. Hence, the traditional coming of age for all sons of The White Tiger was always a great ordeal, they were stripped of everything, including their clothes and shoes, and given a spear, then sent up onto the mountain to hunt a tiger. Those who fail don't return, those who succeed are considered men of the Sung family. Sung Na and Sung Chei both passed this with flying colours and moved on to the next set of ordeals.

But this harmony was not to last. As Sung Na became more and more arrogant and treacherous, Sung Fao was less inclined to give the mantle of the White Tiger to him. Eventually, it was passed to Sung Chei, which infuriated his elder brother, and drove him to enter the service of an ambitious and corrupt Warlord to the northwest of the province. They invaded Xian Kin.

Sung Fao was the first to be killed by the ambitious rebel Gong Yē. Sung Chei was forced to flee his home at the age of sixteen, and complete his martial training in the southern monasteries. After his training was completed at the age of twenty he crossed the Western Ocean and into the continent you all know and love. His claim to nobility is completely authentic and genuine, but he doesn't like many people to know about it, as many would take it as a prelude to invasion despite him being alone. Now he wanders the continent, fighting bandits and rebels for money, waiting for the opportunity to find a greater destiny.
