Sir Corvetius has been the right hand man of Lord Ruthgaard, a local baron, for most of his adult life. The son of a yeoman and wealthy peasant, who had served the previous Lord Titus Ruthgaard as a faithful archer and once saved his life on the battlefield, wanted to ensure their family ties were tied even tighter. So he invested in the best education money could afford for young Corvetius and sent him off to serve Lord Titus Ruthgaard as a page, learning the ways of court and county politics by hovering by the shoulders of many a politician and courtier. He also grew into a fast friendship with Gailun, making up a circle of friends around the young heir to the barony.

When Titus' son, Gailun, came of age, Corvetius was the obvious choice as sheriff and bailiff. His methods for taxation from the common folk proved quite effective, so much so that when he managed to save the treasury from the brink of bankruptcy, Corvetius was knighted. He even married into the Pettybrand family, a family of lesser nobility, who insisted on keeping their name, so he would henceforth be known by his own family's name and that of his wife. Corvetius certainly didn't mind. He always found it helped impress some of the peasantry the longer his name sounded.
