Second Favourite, known in his tongue as Desfavorito, is a Verdilhan prince, diplomat, orator, preacher, philosopher, writer, and occasional councilor to his brother Margrave of the Cape, King of Verdilha. He is recognized as a son of the late king Tago of the Good Eye, although his mother's identity remains a mystery. Rumors of her being a nymph, a gnome, a fairy, a pixie, a hag, a witch, a salt maiden, a mermaid, a demon, or even an imp are to be disregarded, and kept away from Second Favourite's ears.

Of average height for a Verdilhan, and therefore relatively short among the Arethil peoples, Second Favourite is deceptively light. He appears rather unmartial for a prince, with a thin long neck, narrow shoulders, and long spindly hands. While he keeps his hair short and beard shaved, his sideburns are trimmed down at the shoulders, oiled and well-curled, as is custom in Verdilha. Old age has caught up to Second Favourite so fiercely that he's been mistaken for men twice his age.
