Traits & Appearance

The people of Djedi Akhmis, from the elder to the infant, are wrapped from head to toe in fine linin burial wrappings so thickly and to such a thorough degree that not a single crack of their flesh can be seen underneath, it's not even clear how they are able to see, but they are able to function and move about as if they were a totally normal and uninhibited people.

In spite of their disturbing resemblance to mummies in their cultural garb they do not shuffle or move around like the undead. they can run, jump, work, play, fight, and even speak without revealing any sign of an undead nature.
They do not even give off the scent of the dead, though strangely enough they don't smell like living people either. Instead they carry the scent of the traditional herbs and perfumes that one would use to preserve bodies in the mummification process.

Aside from their wrappings they are dressed in ornate linins and bronze jewelry inset with valuable stones, decorating themselves over the wrappings as if the mummification was in fact their skin.

It is utterly taboo to remove the wrappings of a citizen of Djedi Akhmis. For them it is only ever done between bound couples in moments of intimacy.
However, if someone ever were to remove the wrappings of a citizen they will find one of two things depending on the time of day;
If they are in the sunlight, they will find an unspoiled living human.
If it is done at night, they will find a fresh corpse only recently embalmed, possibly appearing vampiric.

Abilities & Weaknesses

While many citizens are among the original inhabitants of Djedi Akhmis and thus undead with their accompanying traits, there is also a living population among the population. But even they dress the same as mummies.

Abilities
Undead Nature: As an undead they are magically resistant to normal, un-enchanted weapons. Magic effects them normally. Negative magic and energy from the void can heal them. Their strength is enhanced with the traits of the undead, making them twice as strong as they were in life.

The Incarnated Dead: They have similar traits as normal undead, but their nature is different. They are not souls borrowed from the void to inhabit the bodies of the dead, or magical essence infused into corpses. They are the souls reunited with their bodies, resurrected willingly by the god-king they served in life and swore their souls to.

Weaknesses
Undead Nature: In spite of their unique nature they are still undead and vulnerable to magic and enchanted weapons and items. And they are especially vulnerable to holy and fire magic.

Background & Lore

The Past
The People of Djedi Akhmis have a long and sad story. They were the citizens of the once great civilization of Djedi Akhmis and served the god-king of that great nation, Kalia Oro Khastan.
They thrived under his rule, prospered and became wealthy and happy in their beautiful city, nobody wanted for anything and they worshipped their king among the Annunaki pantheon they also revered.

But over the long course of his reign it became silently known among the people that he wasn't seeking to be a god in name alone, but was actually seeking to make their offerings devoted to an actual divine being, not a puppet of the priesthood.
This fact was not largely publicized and only circulated in rumor, thus those in the Annunaki priesthood never discovered the truth until it was too late.

Silently, one by one every citizen in Djedi Akhmis was brought into the cult of believers, they become a people that turned their eyes away from the gods of the pantheon and pledged their souls to the god that ruled among them, believing that he will save their souls and give them true paradise when they perish.
They believed that he pursued this path for their sakes, though non could blame him if they thought he might have personal reasons for this as well. They were a people used to worshiping a plethora of gods and couldn't fault him for his own bid for power.

Disaster struck when their king was reported dead on the battlefield, not struck down by an enemy but by the gods themselves. When his body was brought back to the city the priesthood turned on the citizens, using their magic and favor of the gods to subdue every citizen and soldier and then ultimately bury them in their own homes, turning their city into one giant tomb.
