"A good archer is known not by his arrows, but by his aim."

Appearance

Tall, tan and handsome. He has been carved into a perfect warrior over hundreds of years of training.

Skills and Abilities

Rivain is only good to swoon the ladies and use a bow and arrow. It has been said that he's never missed a shot, but ask any woman he's spoken to and you'll hear a different story.

Personality and Lore

Rivain was born in the ancient fae Day Court territory known as the Elderglen. This is a hidden sanctuary nestled between the Spring and Summer courts. It is renowned for its lush forest teeming with life and magic running through its ancient roots. Dense, towering trees form a canopy overhead, allowing sunlight to filter through. The floor is carpeted with rich moss and stone pathways sprinkled throughout, leading to homes and businesses. A series of crystal-clear streams are carved through the land, water sparkling with the same elemental magic that nourishes the rest of the territory.

The Elderglen has a lengthy expanse along the border with several locations of interest. A clearing in the heart of the Elderglen houses the Sylverglade Clearing, is an area where fae gather for council meetings and events. The Sylverglade is encircled by ancient trees with faces carved in them, said to represent one of the gods they believe in. A large temple, seemingly grown from the large tree itself, is said to be the birthplace of, and is frequently littered with fae leaving offerings to, the Twin Hunters of Death. A small clearing towards the border of the territory is known as the Moonlit Glade. It is a quiet clearing that surrounds a sparkling lake. Several smaller villages are sprinkled throughout the Elderglen.

The Elderglen officially belongs to the Day Court, but rarely interacts unless called for. Known for its neutrality, the Elderlgen has historically served as a meeting ground for fae of both courts. In more recent years, it has also been known as a safe haven for the rare human visitor. Despite its neutrality, there are still a handful of older fae who regard humans with disdain and wish to continue teaching those beliefs to their children.

The Fae of the Elderglen value knowledge, particularly in the realms of magic and combat. Since Elderglen’s birth, soldiers have trained, prepared to be called upon by whoever needs them most. Rivain and Asher’s father Aerion is a warrior, hailing from the Summer Court who joined the Elderglen in its earlier years. Known for his prowess in combat and unwavering dedication to Elderglen, he has taken it upon himself to train the younger fae in the art of war. Training is rigorous, a combination of weaponry and magic as well as teaching honor, discipline and bravery. Rumors of war are stirring and Aerion is preparing.

Merenor Lyr was a beloved mage from the Spring Court who dedicated his long life serving as the primary tutor of magical discipline. He was known for his vast knowledge of ancient magic and a compassion for all beings. His recent death has left a void in the community and there is debate on who may take up the position. He adopted an infant half-fae girl, Vespera, who despite his tutoring was unable to draw forth the fae magic in her blood. Merenor instilled an importance of balance, empathy, and respect for magic.

Rivain is the older brother of Fionn and Asher, and from the moment Asher was born they shared an unbreakable bond. Rivain, despite being the more spontaneous and irresponsible brother, had always taken on the role as the protective older brother. Oftentimes, he found himself teaching Asher the same lessons their father taught him, acting as a mentor and guide until he was old enough to begin his training.

Fionn and Rivain had a difficult relationship. While Rivain trained physically, Fionn was trained in magic, something he excelled with far more than either Rivain or Asher. Rather than the elemental traits of the other brothers, Fionn was discovered to be gifted with light and illusion. They had maintained a civil relationship throughout their youth, respectful enough of each other's priorities to prevent most conflict. When Fionn was betrothed to a Princess in the Day Court, he was surprised and disappointed that he would choose to leave the Elderglen. He still cares for his brother, but understands that they will never be as close as they once were.

Their father began their training in childhood. Rivain, being the older child, began earlier. From the start, he excelled with a bow and arrow, displaying natural talent that surpassed even his father’s skills and expectations. His keen eyesight, quick reflexes and steady hands were only amplified by his natural gift in controlling air. As he matured, his role evolved from pupil to guardian and he was tasked with protecting the Elderglen just as his father had trained him to be, as a Sylverglade Sentinel.

With no real threats (except from his father) for hundreds of years, Rivain had followed his impulsiveness and spent many of them exploring outside of his realm. He comes home when convenient, not when he is needed.
