Personality

While outwardly, Po may seem weak and timid, she is braver than she knows. She is a dreamer and finds her escape in the precious few moments she has 'off' from her duties to escape in the stories of books and scrolls. She longs to have a dragon of her own and become a legendary dragon rider. She continues in her role as servant to the royal family to provide for her disabled father and is fearful of what might happen to not only her but also her father if she messes it all up.

Biography & Lore

Polina was born to a prominent merchant family. When traveling outside of the city when she was six, they got attacked by a pack of jarlax. Her mother was killed and her father sustained severe injuries which left him with one leg. If not for the dragons and their riders, they all would've been killed. And from that day on, Po dreamed of bonding with a dragon to ride one and help others, like she had been helped.

But because of her father's decline in mobility and the loss of his wife, he was unable to keep up with his trade and business. Over the years they spiraled into poverty. By age 8, they had to move to the Outer City where she met Briseis. She and the older girl quickly became close friends before Briseis got lucky enough to score a job in the Inner City to a wealthy family.

Po's fate changed shortly after. By age 12, she and her father were on the verge of being homeless. By sheer luck, a nobleman happened to pass through the streets where Polina and her father lived. The young girl's beauty caught his attention as well as her steady hand. And perhaps he was guided by a recommendation from Briseis.

He recommended that her father allow him to bring her forward as a candidate to serve in the palace. If she was accepted, their needs would be taken care of. Polina's father was initially against this. The idea of her daughter becoming an indentured servant appalled him. But with the last of their coin diminishing and debts building and with Polina's urging for him to let her do this for him, he relented.

And that's how Polina came into service for the royals at the Palace, serving Kaveh's family.

She still dreams to find a dragon of her own and become one of the legendary riders. But she often wonders if they will only ever be dreams as she scrubs dishes in the massive kitchens and follows whatever other orders Madame Sinclaire piles upon the young girl's shoulders.
