Pele the Eternal Flame
Appearance
Pele can be distinguished by her large but lithe body. She has a maximum wingspan of over forty-five feet and an overall length of thirty-three feet from nose to tail tip when fully extended. Two large black horns curve backwards from her head and she smells of smoke and sulfur. She is covered in scales of various red colors from crimson to a deep maroon. Each is like a thick steel plate that sheds and is regrown if damaged. Pele has four limbs. Her wings double as her front legs when they are folded to her sides.
"My armor is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!” -Smaug

Skills and Abilities
Flight - Pele can sustain flight for long periods of time but having to climb quickly in altitude or take off is tiring. She much prefers to soar, using updrafts to gain altitude and taking off of cliffs and areas of high relative elevation. No magic is needed here.
Frightful Presence - Anything that can perceive her and experiences a natural flight or fight response will experience primal fear upon observing her unless there are special circumstances to prevent this. Mounts will become hysterical, panic, and flee. Well trained and courageous soldiers may break and flee should she perform an intimidating action such as roaring, slamming her tail, or breathing fire. This is a natural response to a flight or fight mechanic. There is nothing magic about it.
Fire Breath - Pele can exhale a cone of fire sixty feet long. It is hot enough to quickly heat iron to glow red. This is hot enough that such metal could be worked by a smith or cook a knight inside his armor. Her breath can't melt iron but other metals with lower melting points are susceptible to being turned to liquid such as gold, roughly two-thousand degrees. Perhaps this is her limit or perhaps it is self imposed. Either way a breath weapon is commonly a dragon's natural ability. There is a limit to how many times she can breath fire a day but there is nothing magic about it. She is also resistant to fire and can withstand hotter temperatures than most other creatures.
Living Siege Weapon - She is a living siege weapon, able to do substantial damage to fortifications with her natural weapons. Her tail, claws, head, teeth, and talons can all be used to great effect. No magic needed here.
Draconian Senses - Pele has vision superbly adapted to hunting. She enjoys excellent depth perception, which allows her to judge distances with great accuracy, and she has outstanding peripheral vision as well. She can perceive motion and detail at least twice as well as a human in daylight, and her eyes adapt quickly to harsh light and glare. Pele can stare at the sun on a clear summer day and suffer no loss of vision. She can also see exceedingly well in dim light. In moonlight, she can see as well as she can in sunlight. In even dimmer light, she can see four times as far as a human can under similar conditions. Pele can also see with no light at all but it is in black and white.
Her sense of smell is nearly as well developed as her vision. This refined sense of smell is only partly dependent on the her sensitive nose; she also uses her forked tongue to sample the air, just as a snake does. Her ability to sense the presence of other creatures by scent makes it difficult
to catch her unawares, and hiding from her is nearly impossible once she is close enough to pick
up the quarry’s scent.
Her ears are about as sensitive as human ears, and the range of tones she can hear are similar to what a human can hear. Her sense of hearing is sharper that the typical human, thanks to her ability to recognize important sounds for what they are and to filter out background noise to focus on significant sounds.
She has a sense of taste that is highly discriminating and can note the slightest variations in the taste of water or food. She has developed some peculiar culinary preferences as a result. She doesn't respond well to sweet flavors.
Thanks to her thick, scaly hide and clawed feet, she has very little tactile sense.
Mystery Magic - She may have other magical abilities but she chooses not to use them. It is rumored however that some dragons had the ability to change into humanoids. Also many dragons are said to have been colossal in size, much larger than Pele's current form.

Personality
Pele is vain, believing she is the pinnacle of draconic nature and that all other species are impure. She is vengeful and fierce and recognizes these two traits with pride. She is a solitary creature and cares little for news of other dragons though she does look for news of the area surrounding what she considers her territory. Despite all this she is not evil, nor would she be considered good by most. She is a force of nature like a tornado or a volcano. How can those things be good or evil? Do not expect her to have the same thought processes as an average human.
