Appearance

proxy.php

Nilam's true form has a long serpentine tail form low hips down. They have large (almost too large) piercing reflective gold eyes and pointed ears. These two traits are the main give away that they aren't human when assuming a two legged shape. They have long red hair usually tied loosely back which catches the light in odd ways. Their frame is slender but toned and their general appearance is somewhat androgynous in nature.
Generally they wear a kind of long robe top and hakama style tied pants.
They wear a blue pendant as their tide anchor.
In their two-legged form they are about 5'7'' or 5'8'' in height. When in their true form if traveling upright their height is around 5'6'' with the tail trailing behind at a length of roughly 5 meters or 16 ft.

Biography & Lore

Nilamani's 'mother' was of a tribe of Nerevyn that spend the majority of time in the waters close to shore but migrate to deep waters in cycles of their life. It was during one of these periods in the deep that they became with child.
They returned to shallower shores to raise Nilamani. However a short few years into Nilamani's adolescence their mother felt the insatiable pull to return to the deep. Fearing that Nilamani was not yet strong enough they half-lied, half-bewitched an older couple living isolated in the bay to believe Nilamani was their long-lost nephew.

Nilamani enjoyed a relatively carefree childhood with their surrogate parents. They lived in a small fisherman's cottage on the coast. If the fisherman and his wife ever caught on they never let it show. In fact they seemed delighted, encouraging even, whenever Nilamani slipped and showed a bit of magic. Nilamani isn't sure what they truly think of their less human traits, the scales, the sharp teeth, the pointed ears. It would seem to Nilamani the two were so desperate to re-connect with family lost that they were willing to welcome any child, even a fishy shaped one.
It left them with equal parts gratitude and equal parts guilt.

It wasn't until well into their teens that Nilam ventured further inland to explore Elbion proper.
There they became interested in the college and went to great effort to enter.
The look of pride on their surrogate parent's faces when they were accepted eased some of Nilamani's guilt.
