It is not her hair, height, or eyes that set her apart from other humans. It is the parts of her body that are unseen. Her back is covered in scars from her time at the Academy curtesy of the Proctors and her fellow Initiates.

The scars are secondary to the tattoos that cover the back of her neck and down her spine. Each symbol in her magical tattoo is a binding as part of her deal with a demon.

Maura was taken to the Academy when she was four years old so she has only known the cruelty of the Dreadlords. She was never the most sane Initiate and it did not get better as she grew older.

She is cold, aloof, and cruel. She cares about one thing: power. She believes she is better than those who are less powerful than her. This was proven multiple times in the Academy as she killed Initiates who did not deserve to be there. The weak have no place in the ranks of the great Dreadlords.

Maura was four years old when she brought a dead bird back to life. Her parents, of course, were horrified. They turned her over to the Academy immediately and never looked back. As her power grew, the Proctors would have her kill fellow Initiates that were too weak and then they would torture her until she brought them back from death. She had no choice and eventually she turned off her feelings. She told herself that the weak die and they deserved it. She also told herself that they were better off.

She graduated at the age of seventeen as a Level One Dreadlord. She easily made the decision to work for House Banick. For years she did her job with no issues. She had no friends and she rarely spoke but she also did not get beat and sliced up on a daily basis. Maura found that she had not killed anyone for a long time. She felt like she was getting better. She felt like she was becoming human again.

Until she met a beautiful woman who promised her even more power. Maura held on to her newly found humanity for a little while but shortly before the rebellion, she gave in. The exchange was Maura's soul, Maura's life, and Maura's creations. Maura would create an undead army of Anirian Guards and Dreadlords. This demon wanted destruction and pain. Maura was the perfect target.

In the chaos of war, Maura took the opportunity to leave Vel Anir and make her way to the outskirts of the Anirian land. She has spent her time building her army by luring Guards and Dreadlords out with false help requests.

They would never leave a citizen to die. They are too good for that. They are even better after the rebellion and it disgusts Maura. So many weak people who would only be stronger once she killed them and made them her own.
