Appearance

Amongst his people, Lokdrarlig was an ordinary run-of-the-mill Duergar. As is typical of his race, he possesses grey skin and thin white hair. Equally his eyes, having never encountered sunlight before his exile, are a pale white in colour and enable him to see clearly within the darkest of areas. Aside from these distinguishable figures, Lokdrarlig possesses much the same build and characteristics of his ancestor race - the dwarves. In stature, he is of slightly above average height and possesses a very stock, muscular, builds that is typical of a dwarf.

In terms of attire, Lokrarlig is rarely seen outside of the comfort of his strange purple-hued armour. His trademark weapon, equally, possesses the strange colourations and patterns that are a staple of his people's metalwork. Having both been forged deep within the ancient magma flows, using strange and exotic techniques produces this effect, but otherwise, they hold no difference to surface-made equipment. Furthermore, due to his upbringing within the Underdark, he is particularly susceptible to light and is forced to wear a set of specially made spectacles that filter out ambient light.

Skills and Abilities

Within the Duergar exists a mighty institution known only as the 'Primal Order'. In honour of their great God of Fire, Zharr, whose power ensures the lava flows, and lifeblood, of his people run free and true, certain Duergar are tasked with dedicating themselves to Zharr. Trained from birth, these individuals are honed into warriors that honour their God by allowing their primal rage to burn inside them. Lokdrarlig, in his past life, was one such individual.

During his time Delkihm, Lokdrarlig trained and developed his skills within martial combat and is a prolific combatant even without his rage. His weapon of choice is his trusty urgrosh, a deadly weapon that combines a heavy axe on one end and, at the other end of the haft, it boasts a sharpened metal spearpoint. While the weapon can be particularly unwieldy, once a user is proficient in utilising it they are capable of employing both weapons to a frightening degree and flick between them at a moments notice.

Lokdrarlig was born and raised within the confines of the Underdark. His people are not familiar with sunlight, nor do they ever - willingly at least - rise to the surface world. As a result, he is forced to wear specially crafted spectacles that dampen the amount of light that reaches his eyes. If these, for any reason, fall off then Lokdrarlig will be severely overwhelmed when exposed to sunlight and his vision will be exceptionally poor until he enters a darker area or re-equips his spectacles.

Biography & Lore

Lokdrarlig was selected at a young age. Singled out amongst his peers to serve the Great God and Underlord - Zharr. His induction into the order saw him face great hardship and gruelling training for the first few decades of his life. He was made to suffer greatly, to enact terrible acts against his kin and his enemies. There was no respite, there was no reprieve, there was only grief and suffering. His lessons were with purpose. It was a training regime as old as his people. It was designed to make him a berserker. Tapping into the lessons of his formative years, it aimed to create the perfect warrior, one who ignores all other sensations and focuses - cultivates even - their primal rage and anger, directing it solely at their enemies.

It worked. Lokdrarlig graduated in his 60th year and the next few decades saw him become a prominent member of his order. He fought in several of the great Underdark skirmishes. Lead his own kin against the second great Duergar incursion. He witnessed many of his comrades perish, yet he fought resolutely. His anger grew, yet something else flourished within him. With each ransacking, with each war, with each conquest, he saw snippets of something else. He saw cultures, individuals, he saw past the enemies he had been trained to see.

Having been hailed as the hero of a nameless battle, Lokdrarlig oversaw the great enslavement of a cave-goblin nation. He saw the destruction and desolation lead by his people. He became a prominent critic, advocating for more peaceful relations. He was the only one, however. His people turned on him, calling him a traitor and an enemy of the state. He was soon exiled.

The Underdark is not kind to Duergar. The Duergar cause too much suffering for the rest of the subterranean races, too much pain. He knew his choices were limited, so he fled. He fled to the surface. An ancient keep his race had originally split from, yet what he saw was a ruin. After months spent exploring the abandoned mines, he stumbled upon a group of friendly dwarves who listened to his story. They became fast friends and took him back to their homeland. They gave him lessons in common and shaped him, ready to integrate with the rest of the surface world - even preparing him sets of spectacles to overcome the light-blindness.

When he set about to make his own living amongst the surface world. Lokdrarlig swore he would do right by the dwarves, any dwarves, they were his kin now.
