Appearance

Himitsu’s natural form is that of a tall, white-furred fox tipped with black on her ears and the tips of her tails, of which she has seven. She has piercing gold eyes and black markings on her cheeks and muzzle. She stands easily as long in her fox form as she is tall in her normal human form.

That being said, there are few who see that true form. Instead, she has a few ‘common’ or ‘favorite’ shifts that she is usually seen in. Her most-used one is a white-haired human female with braids in her hair, tattoos on her face, and golden eyes. Because she wears this face often it’s the easiest for her to shift into, and when she shifts half-way into her half-fox form, it is usually into a white-haired, eared, and tailed version of this face.

Her second favorite form is an old-woman with deeply grizzled lines and knobby fingers. She particularly enjoys shifting into this one in order to pick a fight if she’d bored, as people’s reactions to it are pretty priceless.

Skills and Abilities

Shapeshifting

Mitsy is a full Kitsune, meaning that she carries all of their natural abilities to shapeshifting. These come natural to her and are the abilities that she uses the most and so she is able to duplicate or create a humanoid look regardless of gender or species almost effortlessly. Once she is in a form she can hold said form even through sleep or unconsciousness unless forced back into her true form by sickness, poison, spells, or other stressors.

Charm/Seduction

She is also fairly skilled at charming and seducing others. It usually requires at least a drop of her or another’s blood to power the spell, but she can usually “target” her charm at someone within eyesight and draw them towards her. She has also demonstrated the ability to direct that charm or seduction to another person or even an inanimate object. The ‘charm’ usually has a very short duration, only a few minutes, unless she spends a good deal more than drop of blood or is consciously feeding the spell her own energy to maintain it.

Kitsune-bi

Also known as “foxfire”, Mitsy’s kitsune-bi usually takes shape as balls of floating fire that she breathes or exhales from her mouth. The kitsune-bi can be thrown, can be left to float in place, or can follow her as needed. The fire burns until the energy she feeds it is depleted or she extinguishes it, or it is doused. The fire burns pale blue and ghostly but other than the odd color and the floating nature it acts the same as any other fire, with no special properties beyond that.

In her true or half-fox forms, she can also generate kitsune-bi by shaking it out of her tails, meaning that she can cast a barrage of fireballs with a sweeping motion. She herself enjoys a limited immunity to fire as part of this trait.

Tonfa

A skilled melee fighter, Mitsy is a practiced brawler. She is good at unarmed combat and familiar with most weaponry. Her preferred weaponry is a pair of tonfa that were created by a half-breed in one of her neighboring clans when she was young. They are white and look like they were carved from the bones of a giant animal, though which one is unclear. Deep red runes have been etched into them, giving them magical durability and a limited ability to block or disrupt spells. She often carries them strapped to the small of her back when not intending to use them.

Personality

Himitsu, when sober (which is rare), is clever, sarcastic, brave, and deeply loyal. However, you have to catch her really early in the morning or on a very rare day to find her sober, as she prefers to spend her day with her three favorite activities: fighting, feasting, and fu -- no, drinking. (Psych!) She can have a short attention span, and cares very little about things if they’re ‘boring’. She is impulsive and often acts before thinking, caring little for consequences.

Mitsy is, for a lack of a better word, caustic. She is an outcast in a world that isn’t her own, and cares very little about her ‘legacy’, since nothing she does matters to her family. Therefore, she’s content going from job to job and breaking noses, never staying too long in any one place. She has very few in the way of friends, mostly because people tire of her acidic sense of humor and exhausting antics. That and, if anyone gets too close, she simply changes her face and moves on.

Biography & Lore

Himitsu was raised in the Kitsune town of Ki-Tamashii, deep in the Falwood. Ki-Tamashii is, in many ways, the heart of Kitsune society, as much as their society has any real structure or rules, and her parents were the head of the Council of Elders that governs the Kitsune as a whole. One day, a human stumbled into the town, mostly by complete fluke. The clan was doing well, their stores well stocked, so they didn’t eat him, letting him spend time in the clanlands, an amusing thing to the foxes. And Himitsu, young and silly and star-eyed as she was, fell completely head over heels. He told her stories of faraway lands which she didn’t much care about but she watched him as he spoke and showed him around the forest and when she shifted into a form he particularly liked, he kissed her sweetly.

A fortnight into the man’s stay, he asked Himitsu about the necklace that her father wore. ‘A relic of a wizard who came seeking to enslave us but only served to kill himself,’ she informed him, as all of the pups in her clan had heard the story many times before. The wizard had thought himself too powerful to be charmed, but her mother had spun a web so tempting even he couldn’t escape, and then her father had eaten him. ‘Bring it to me,’ he pleaded, ‘and I will take you to the lands outside of this forest and make you a queen.

Himitsu didn’t much care about being a ‘queen’, but he asked her every night for a week until she relented.

When her father found out what she’d done, he was furious, and immediately set off to kill the man. Himitsu fought to protect her beloved, only to discover that he had snuck away in the dark of the night and was gone. While she wept at being abandoned, her parents took to the woods, but there was no trace of the man. For her insolence and foolishness in endangering the clan and allowing the man to escape, Himitsu was banished. They took her name, enspelling it away, and with it all ability she had to find the clan ever again. She could wander for centuries and her feet would never again bring her home.

They left her weeping by a stream, her name now a secret, a ‘himitsu’.

Mitsy doesn’t remember much of the weeks after that, travelling like a ghost from settlement to settlement, often scrounging for scraps and imitating the villagers in order to steal their food. Eventually, however, she began to hold her own, learning quickly the ways of the lands outside of clan lands. It proved a specific boon that so few had heard of her race -- very few outside the wooded reaches of Falwood knew what she was, much less to ask what she was doing so far from home. So, she was able to sink into her new life, eking out whatever joy she could and dreaming of finding the man who had cursed her so and cutting off his -- well. She’d leave him alive, for sure.

Just not ‘manly’ anymore.
