Appearance

General: Vayden stands seven feet and three inches tall which is rather average for a Draconian. His scales are mostly a dark ebony though intermittently an odd and irregular pattern of white casts itself along his underside, throat, lower jaw, and wing membranes. Most of these marks are sharp though some are more rounded. White also appears prominently on his crown where the long horns and spines that sweep back from there are about half white and half black. This is most noticeable in the two main horns which are one white and one black. The draconian’s eyes are a deep and radiant shade that is most often red orange like flame or a sunset but can wane slightly yellower into more of an amber color depending on the light and time of day they are observed. Vayden’s claws are sharp and jet black.

Injures:
(12/26/21) Small to moderate cuts and bruses on his legs and arms. His right leg has a healing arrow wound, his left arm has been cut up decently, his ribs are badly bruised, his wing joints have been strained, and he has minor burns on his neck arms and legs.

(1/11/22) Some tenderness and fatigue in his wings but otherwise OKAY!

Horns, Spikes, and Fins: Vayden has a series of spikes fins and horns that adorn his crown. Prominently two long, four-inch-thick horns sweep back at a gentle angle from his brow and end in points. The left horn is black while the right is ivory. Two fins sit in a line starting a little forward from the middle top of his head and sweep down to his upper neck. The first fin is slightly taller at about five inches at its tallest while the second slopes down gently to the back of his neck and is about three inches tall at tallest. Both fins are black and scaled without sharp points and composed of semi firm cartilage. Finally, down the rest of Vayden’s middle neck and back are fine inch long cartilage spikes. These are some black and some white in an uneven manor to the tip of his tail. These smaller spikes are softer than his fins and leathery to the touch.

Voice: Barry Harris

Wings: Naturally draconic in nature with scales and a relatively thin leathery membrane. Vayden’s wing membranes are speckled white on black like his belly and other areas. When he has the time and the means the draconian will often color or paint every splotch he can reach to give them sharp edges and multiple symmetrical points. The intention is to give his white on black wings an abstract stary look. How abstract depends upon the coloring substance at hand and the effort he puts into it. Do to his reach limitations areas right behind Vayden’s shoulders and nearest to his wing joints on the back are left with their natural uneven splotches.

(1/11/22) The state of Vayden’s wing art: Pleasantly Artistic. Vayden's wings have been maintained with coal by his own hand. Some star shapes are a little uneaven and smudged exposing the iregular pattern underneath.

Scars
: Vayden has many small scars that can be found on his scaled body under close inspection. Only three really stand out otherwise. The first is easily seen when he is bare chested. This long slice runs from above his left pectoral at a slight angle down to the bottom left of his ribs. The second is a moderate but not horribly ugly burn scar that covers the back of his left hand and lower forearm. The final scar is a cubic rune branded into his right forearm.

Clothing: Currently Vayden is limited to just a single set of black boiled leather armor. The armor is without a helmet but covers from upper thigh and the base of his tale to his lower throat and shoulders. It has simple warn bronze buckles and is decorated with stylized art around the collar bone. This art is a decent but not extremely impressive pare of dragons frozen mid fight with one on each side of his chest. The small stencil fills his upper pectoral area. Besides this the armor is form fitting and functional offering a large range of movement and reasonable protection for its weight.

Weapons, Tools, etc.: Vayden has one black scriptor used to practice his magic + holster, one simple rondel dagger + holster, and a hastily fashioned shoulder bag made of mountain goat hide.

Vayden’s scriptor is shaped like a dagger at about one foot from pommel to tip but is made completely of black draconian bone. It has a single sharpened point at its tip but no sharpened edges otherwise. The ‘blade’ of the scriptor is a tapered cylinder that is three and one half inches wide at its widest with flowing runes along the whole length. The handle is smooth with no guard atop it and gently sloped for griping. The bottom of the tool’s pummel is pyramid shaped with a rounded end. When welling blood for a spell the scriptor will collect a vast majority of the fluid in a perfect sphere that stands off the pummel’s rounded edge while a small amount fills the carved runes on the blade. This blood sphere will grow as more blood is drawn for more powerful spells.

Vayden’s dagger has an eight-inch-long double-edged blade. The guard is a simple round iron disk and the handle is wrapped in black dyed hide cord. This dagger’s pummel is a simple round iron cap. This weapon is worn with use and of sturdy but unremarkable build. The handle is built for a large draconian fist.

The hastily crafted shoulder bag is made of goat hide and sinew. It is simple and barely better than ugly but offers about three square feet of carrying space and has a strap that can be tied to keep it from flopping around terribly while Vayden flies. The top is a simple drawstring sort of deal and the pack itself hangs diagonally across the front of his torso when outfitted properly.

Personality

Vayden is a mostly honest fellow with a lot of pride. This pride can be abrasive to some but he is not overly boastful or arrogant. Within his heart is a wellspring of empathy though tough life events have given him a bit of cynicism. His anger is hard to stoke but can be vibrant and dangerous if successfully ignited. The Draconian will often appear cold to those who do not interest him but to those who can gain his trust he becomes much warmer. Good friends might eventually notice a little mischievousness in him but he is not duplicitous unless under extreme circumstances. Vayden has a flare for the dramatic and likes to look good. He has a single phobia and that is of deep/dark waters and being fully submerged.

Biography & Lore

Life in the Bastion is not easy. Perched high in the winding slopes of the Spine with not even a road to support the village its inhabitants work hard and used their wits as often as draconic might to tame the wild peaks around them. This is where Vayden was born. This large village celebrated his first name day some dozen siears ago, a measurement of lived time used by the Nox Volant people that is equal to about 72 years. A lifetime for some of the more ephemeral species on Arethil but just a little more than coming of age for a draconian. In this time Vayden learned many things. He learned to fish, to hunt. He learned to fight and to fly. He found within himself the mystical power of Datum Vitale and like all other Draconians of the Nox Volant before him who expressed this power, he became a Redeemer.

Redeemers are magically trained warriors but also more than that. Redeemers represent justice for the Nox Volant. Both executioners and defenders, these dangerous Draconians protect what the Nox Volant stand for whether by defeating invaders and predators or enforcing deep scripture. Often it is from this pool of gifted scribes the elders of the Nox Volant will chose their leadership. Vayden was on this path. His people trusted him and all was peace and pride… until the betrayal.

A longtime rival who’s use of charismatic skill and subtle manipulation had long been used against Vander was given an opportunity. This opportunity came in the death of Vander’s mentor and dear friend. Upon the elder Draconian’s death bed he gave Vander the title of Flamerider. This sir name, meant to be a great gift, was quickly forgotten when not days later the allegations came. A longtime friend but scorned lover betrayed Vayden sullying his name with vile lies the likes of which could not be ignored by the Nox Volant. With his mentor freshly dead Vayden lost his temper at just the wrong time. The rival, Graxion by name, will forever bare the scars of that day but he was successful. The violence sealed Vayden’s fate. Only by great and tragic loss did he escape his execution. Now the former redeemer wanders these lands in search of meaning and trying to understand a world without the life he knew.
