Name: Eregesh Lypheral
Age: 40
Born: Elbion
Species: Human
Height: 6’2
Weight: 178 lb
Hair: Black
Skin: Milky white
Occupation: Sorcerer
Eyes: Very dark blue
Place of birth: Elbion
Affiliation: Eternum
Aliases: The Speechless Word, The Pale Apostate
Appearance:
Eregesh’s skin is a sickly, almost translucent white, a side effect of experimenting in the dark arts for so long. His gums are pale and shriven, with his teeth deformed and warped, covered in dried up blood. He is unable to speak anything past a few gurgles and grunts due to his lack of a tongue, and he has resorted to sign language, telepathy, and on occasion speaking through corpses. His eyes are an extremely dark blue, and radiate an almost entrancing glare, akin to some kind of gemstone. He wears tattered black robes, with the hood and sleeves threaded with runic charms and esoteric hymns, Eregesh also has a leather belt with a dagger, several tomes of lore and various other things. Eregesh wields a staff of his own deign, carved in black wood, and crowned by a malign crystal that glows a red-violet pink as it pulsates slowly.
Biography:
Born in Elbion in an unknown year (his past life having been expunged from the records out of shame), Eregesh was inducted into the college as soon as he turned sixteen, as his innate sensitivity to the arcane was quickly discovered. For much of his early life he became a proud and celebrated student of the college, known for his invoking speeches and powerful orating. However, he was always a controversial figure, often arguing against the set norms on the rules of the use of magic,. He came to be somewhat of a theorist in the college, giving half-rants to his cabal of students about the benefits of thinking for oneself and freely, exploring the world of magic to their own ends. While the Foard often despised this, his charismatic nature and ability to win over a crowd kept him nigh untouchable for a time, until he went too far.
In all his time at the college he had not been idle, and secretly he began to crave the more unspeakable schools of thought, necromancy, occultism, the dark arts. For years he silently gathered fragments of ancient texts and lore from across Arethil, and in the depths of his study he began to craft spells of his own devising, ones that were nothing short of blasphemy. When the college finally unearthed his crimes, they attempted to arrest him, but Eregesh resisted, and a fight broke out in his study. The rogue mage unleashed spells he had learned and created, and had it not been for his naive inexperience, he would have caused untold devastation.
Defeated, the college consigned a terrible punishment, tearing his tongue from his mouth so that he may never drawl his heresy again. With that, he was banished, and for many years he wondered the world as an untrustworthy pariah, unable to speak save for telepathy, which he refrained from using. Yet he was not alone, and one night as he was slouched in an alleyway as refuge, he was approached by an undead raven, bearing a note in its rotting maw, an invitation. Having being discovered by a group known as the Eternum, he accepted and eventually found the heretical society, which he embraced as kindred spirits. At present he resides with the organization, constantly seeking ways to restore his speech, and improving his understanding of the darker side of magic…
Personality:
Eregesh is an extremely self-centred and egotistical individual, often isolating himself in his study for days on end, considering his work above that of his fellows. He believes himself to be the wisest and most knowledgeable of the Eternum, despite this often being painfully untrue. The sorcerer gets childishly frustrated when he cannot complete something, descending into fits of rage. He only gets on with a few members of the Eternum, but for the most part he merely sees them as a tool to carry out his own aims. Eregesh can also be cruel at times, revelling in psychic torture and manipulation. He is obsessed with the collection of lore, always desperate to restore his speech, as without it, it makes it hard to communicate (or indeed insult) others.
Skills and abilities:
Eregesh is a lacklustre swordsman, a product of his life as a pampered and protected child of Elbion, as such he mainly relies on the psychic forms of magic to break his opponents before he finishes them off. He has learned to reanimate recently deceased or well-preserved corpses as a way for him to speak through, as he can only telepathically communicate with another magic-wielder, seeing as how non-magic users cannot reply to him. He can only speak through corpses that still posses intact lungs and vocal cords, but that is not the only use for them. Eregesh has the ability to animate the bodies of the dead, and control their actions, which allows him to use them to fight. This has its limits however, as can only manipulate one corpse at a time.
