There’s a market that sells things it shouldn’t. Finely-ground mermaid’s teeth, puca bones, unicorn horn, duanann fingernails, selkie skin, hag’s warts, nymph water, and perhaps most miraculous of all: fairy wings. Fairy wings will bring good luck and fortune, hide it somewhere it can never be found in your home, and then reap the benefits! But not all fairy wings are the same. Puca wings will bring you a little bit of luck, pixie wings will bring you more luck than a puca’s wings. But if you can snag a Sidhe?

One of those female ones, you know, the sort that hang around cemeteries trying to find their next victim. They’re all beautiful— and what grieving man wouldn’t want to be comforted by a pretty face and even prettier voice? But they drive you insane! All of a sudden, you think you can take on the world or you can paint better than anyone else, and by then, it’s too late.

But their wings bring a lot of good luck. Inspiration, good fortune, wealth— all of that and more. And they have six instead of four! Heard only one will cost you about five hundred gold pieces, sometimes a thousand if there’s no damage on the wing! Plenty of those rich folks, you know the sort I’m talking about, they actually go around, seeing all these pretty sidhe in iron cages, and they pick which wing they want!

Yes, yes, aha! Just like they’re shopping for a pig or cow, haha! Almost makes you pity ‘em until you remember how they’re always trying to do the same to us.

I heard that man, Dakara, who brings in the live ones to that market, tricks those fae right back! He says all you gotta do is reject them, and if you reject them, they become your slave! So next time you see a pretty face, just tell them no and see if you caught yourself a pretty fae to bring to Suntory Market. You’ll be a rich man if she got her wings intact!”

Appearance

Leannan Sidhes are known for taking male lovers due to their ethereal beauty. Elida used to do the same, hanging around cemeteries to pounce on widows. Her blonde hair has a natural wave to it, thin like spider’s silk but shines brighter than the sun. Her eyes are highly unusual, a soft green that is clear and not muddied by flecks of brown or gold.

Elida is slight and soft, noticeably quite fragile-looking and moving about as if she were weightless. Often walks on the tips of her toes.

Her back is scarred and corroded from the iron used to pull out her wings. A thin red scar around her swan-neck and slender wrists reminds Elida of the collar and shackles she wore.

Biography & Lore

Like her kind were supposed to do, Elida fell in love. She fell in love many, many times while she was out in the human world. It wasn’t her fault that those who fell in love with her were destined to go insane. But Elida kept falling in love, just like her sisters.

She never expected to be told ‘no.’ She never expected to be Dakara’s slave, even without giving her true name to him. Although he made sure to extract it out of her before he brought her to the infamous Suntory Market. Locked in a iron cage inside of a tent, Elida only saw a glimpse of sun-light on the ground whenever a customer would open the tent flap.

Elida was told she had an unusual color pattern for her wings, not that she had ever noticed such a thing before. A vibrant pastel wash of cool blues and greens and soft lavender and pink— the price of each wing was over a thousand. That meant despite many customers initially seeking out Elida’s wings, more often than not, they decided not to spend so much gold on her.

It meant that Elida stayed longer than the others. Which gave her time to plan. She knew that once a fae had lost it’s appeal, they were killed. She wasn’t sure how but she didn’t want to find out. She had plenty of time, in between waiting for her wings to be pulled and the actual act of pulling out her wings.

Elida would like to say she didn’t cry when they pulled her wings out, but she did. She cried and screamed and thrashed about like a wild animal. She couldn’t heal, away from the ley lines, her wings would never return. Her magic diminished with each wing that was pulled.

When the final wing was ripped out of her body, with her gaping wound still bleeding, Elida was led out of the tent after all customers had left. Unable to quite remember how it happened, she escaped, utilizing her hands and feet and teeth to get rid of her captor and run far away from Suntory Market.
