Skills and Abilities

Invisibility: A curious magical gift of his mixed heritage, Duresh is able will himself into invisibility, though it takes a few seconds for his body and his clothes and his held weapons to fade from sight. The more he moves while invisible, the more taxing it becomes. Movement also causes tiny distortions of light in the shape of his body, potentially revealing him to those with sharp perception. The magic takes its toll upon his mind, slowly consuming his senses. First vision, then touch, sound, smell, taste. If all five senses are lost, he will become permanently catatonic. It takes time to recover each sense once leaving Invisibility if lost.

Tools of Distraction: Duresh prefers not to fight in face-to-face combat, but to kill his foes before they even have a chance to retaliate. As such, he employs a number of tools to distract and confound his foes. Standard fare like smokebombs, blinding powder, and throwing knives, but also little enchanted noisemakers. His grappling hook is made of elven metal, the line of braided gossamer to support his weight; the most expensive tool in his kit, he prizes it.

Excellent Hearing. Nightvision: A tool of training, and a tool of magic. Duresh, discovering and experimenting with the nature of his Invisibility, learned that his vision would always be the first sense he lost. As such, he spent many hours and eventually days blindfolded. Training his ears to pick up the most subtle of sounds. But his Invisibility wasn't always necessary; simple sneaking and blending into shadows served at times. As such, he has sought out the services of a trusted enchanter in Vel Anir to grant his eyes a level of clarity even in the darkest environments. These enchantments have left his eyes stained yellow, and are, with each renewal of the enchantment, slowly draining his ability to see color. The world to Duresh now is slightly more desaturated than to those with normal vision.

Personality

* Well-spoken and articulate. His mother, though an orcish blacksmith in Alliria, spent time emulating the speech patterns of Garron Banick and other nobles, and as such steered Duresh away from the more common and crude vernacular of the Outer City during his childhood.

* Talkative. Friendly and willing to get to know others, despite his particular profession. Does not share the xenophobic spirit of Vel Anir, despite his work and futile attempts to fit in and the thinly veiled disdain from the general citizenry.

* Cavalier about his work. He will carry out any manner of atrocity at the bidding of House Banick and sleep soundly at night. Acts as a good and civilized person, but will do what is necessary without question. Impersonal and stoic as need be. A willingness to sully his hands so others won't have to.

* Feels more human than orc, as a result of his upbringing in Alliria and life in Vel Anir. Though still he retains a persistent curiosity about his nomadic and tribal brethren and the old ways.

* Seeks his father's approval, despite the lingering and unspoken suspicion that it will never happen. Deeply fears betrayal. Especially so since his work has required him to betray others at times, the firsthand experience on the one side of it making the fear of being on the other side moreso potent.

* Also harbors a deep-seated and growing feeling of anger and resentment at being tacitly rejected by his father.

+ Partakes in certain mind-altering drugs and meditation. An emulation of some of the shamanistic ways of orcs he has only heard about it, but never seen personally.

+ Has a notably deep voice. The bass of it can be disarming.

+ Little or no reaction or response to insults.

+ Loves to travel.

+ Likes to brew his own tea.

+ Exceptionally good at holding eye contact.

+ Never curses.

+ Possesses some lingering skill in leatherworking, for having tending to it for certain armor pieces while his mother worked the forge. But time as waned his ability.

+ Often will use mint, or anything of a strong and distinct flavor, to alert him to losing his sense of taste if in Invisibility for too long.

Biography & Lore

The Bastard of Banick.

Born of a tryst between Garron Banick and an orcish blacksmith in Alliria. Secret and arranged meetings. A product of fetish and lust. Duresh only saw his father once in his life, as a child. A sole, cherished memory.

Life in Alliria. Helping his mother at an early age with the trades of blacksmithing and leatherworking. Tales of her life in her tribe before her exile: they seemed tales of a whole other world. One that spoke to a buried sense of self in Duresh, but one that seemed entirely a thing of fantasy to his conscious mind, so different and alien as it was to the city living of Alliria.

Experimentation. With his magical gift of Invisibility. He asked his mother about it. Vague answers. And he didn't pursue his questioning further.

But the day would come. When the longing to know his father would become too great. His mother tried to talk Duresh out of it, suggesting that it wouldn't go well, and that he might not like what he discovered. Still, he persisted. His mother countered desperately with an offer for them to drop everything and return to tribal life, easing back into it through Bhathairk.

Duresh wouldn't be persuaded. He felt it something he was meant to do. A farewell embrace with his mother, and he departed Alliria and made the journey to Vel Anir.

He knew he wasn't going to be let near his father, and he wasn't.

He knew he could only speak to him through intermediaries, and they were the Crentor family and their agents.

He knew he couldn't dare say he was Garron Banick's son, and so he didn't.

What Duresh didn't know was that his father had a purpose for him.

And how suited he was for it.

Duresh has returned, siding with Forsaken exiles, in a quest for vengeful justice.
