This is Crows Call, the blessed blade, the cursed sword, the Fate Maker, the Soul Breaker. Once it was forged and wielded by a warrior poet of ages past, now the warrior poet's soul haunts and empowers the blade. It has made it its mission to appear where fate can be changed, appearing in the lonesome sands to beings of all stripes to give them great power. Crows Call, upon being picked up by a wielder, either becomes bonded or the blade will turn against its wielder, so always remember: blessed or cursed, Crows Call chooses who wields it.

Appearance

Crows call is a greatsword of 6ft, it has a broad blade with a flat razor rather than a tip, the blade glows a deep red. The blades guard is of simple steel, an old leathered hilt, and a steel pommel. The specter is six feet and appears in tarnished brass plate armor, tattered and faded yellow gambeson beneath. It also wears a faded green gambeson coif with a conquistador styled, tarnished, brass bell helm. Its face takes on a skeletal visage except when it is in a particularity good mood in which it takes a warm ethereal form of the warrior in life. The forms are ethereal with a grey hue over them. The humanoid form of the specter is notably androgynous, lacking any facial hair, and having long curly blonde locks.

Skills and Abilities

+ Flame of Battle (The blade emanates a light red, melodic humming, ethereal flame that scorches the flesh and emanates a soft red light. The flame increases in size and brightness as the it becomes more empowered.)

+ Thirst for Blood (The blade feeds on the lifeblood of others, increasing the specters strength, and replenishing the wielders vigor and endurance on consecutive kills. If the blade is bonded with a wielder who has not fed the sword a creature's life-blood within a few days it will feed on the wielders life force to sustain itself.)

+ Death Shall Have No Dominion! (The blade disintegrates the flesh of soulless, weaker, non-autonomous undead, and burns other undead with ethereal flame. Note: those afflicted with vampirism are included and burned flesh will greatly hinder the regeneration process.)

+ Hymn of Battle (The specter will sing a battle hymn and play a tune, replenishing the the natural energies of the wielder and up to five allies around them. This expends a small amount of energy from the blade.)

+ Death or Glory (The closer the wielder becomes to death the more powerful the enchantment on the blade becomes, increasing the life leaching affects and the destructive capabilities on more powerful undead.)

+ I am with You! (If wielded by a willess individual (NPC) he will take possession of them. When the sword becomes empowered enough the specter will manifest and fight beside the wielder, carrying a spectral copy of the blade with a golden flame. The specter is intangible and can not be damaged with physical means.)

+ Fate maker (After the wielder has accomplished an act that changes fate, the sword will disappear leaving a yellow or black rose where the blade had been, this will also make the ground within a ten to a hundred feet sacred ground: halting blood magic and necromancy until banished for up to two years depending on how much energy was stored in the blade on the moment of casting.)

Personality

The sword is sarcastic and jovial, reveling in battle and bloodshed. It constantly talks and banters with the wielder and the living for it has a great longing for moving amongst the living, in battle its ranting and raving can become somewhat sadistic. It is constantly singing and chanting, which can become rants of madness. Crows Call occasionally losses sense of time and space thinking it is back in the battle it died in, reenacting its final actions and talking to the living as if they were people it knew from long ago.

Biography & Lore

Crows Call was a blade of an ancient warrior-poet whos name is lost to time, the poet died in a great and bloody battle but his soul remains tied to his blade. The blade chooses to appear to people with "sour fates" and stays with them to change their fates, hence Fate Maker.

In ages past, a warrior-poet traveled the land fighting in many battles for the sun (Sunaris), to herald the path to paradise for the valiant dead, and to end the suffering of the undead. The warrior-poet long stood against a cabal of ancient necromancers, but as most life-long warriors are, was slain. Now it returns in some form between life and death to continue it's never ending battle, it's memories frayed. It senses: color, taste, touch, scent: taken.

It exists as it does because in its last battle with the necromancers had killed the warrior-poet and bound his soul and blade to the idle of Sunaris to serve as his phylactery, they send the blade returned form out to various locations where war is likely to break out. The blade will absorb the life essence of those slain and the soul will return to the phylactery before repeating the process again. The spirit is not aware of this process, and is continually loosing more and more of its memories with each death. This makes him functionally a proto-lich of a kind that is used as a soul battery by the Dread Lords. It's hard to say if this cycle will ever be broken, but if it ever is: a dangerous force will be released unto this world against the "dark arts"...
