Gestarik Skull
This small skull can provide its wearer a cloak of shadow to move undetected through darkness. But its boon comes at a price.
Description
- The Gestarik Skull can enshroud the wearer in a cloak of shadow to move undetected through darkness for 10 posts.
- To be granted this boon, the wearer must pierce their own flesh with the fangs of the skull and feed it their blood as tribute for its unique power.
- The wearer cannot elect to "end" the duration of the cloak early. It will last until it wears off on the 10th post.
- The bite marks from the skull are very painful, as the skull injects a poison into the wearer to create the shadow cloak.
- Bite marks are highly prone to infection and disease, particularly if used often. These wounds do not ever fully heal - leaving the skin marred by black corruption, and the more the wearer uses the skull for this power, the more the corruption spreads.
- Overuse of the Gestarik Skull can and has killed wearers before.
- The Gestarik Skull is susceptible to Divine/Holy/Light magic.
- Only Divine/Holy/Light magic can heal the corrupted bites of the skull or dispell the shadow cloak.
History
A useful but dangerous artifact and potentially not the only one of its kind. Gestarix were hunted to extinction both for the danger their bite possessed while living (almost always fatal despite their small size) and the power that remained in their skull after they were slain. Dark magic practitioners were particularly attracted to the boon offered by the skull. A wise mage would know it is better to destroy a Gestarik skull amulet than to use it.
