Ciana Van’Santen
The Shrouded Flame of Vinra

Appearance:
Ciana bears her mother’s striking beauty: long blonde hair, crystalline blue eyes, and delicate features. Illness leaves her pale and gaunt, with skin that sometimes burns hot to the touch, veins glowing faintly as though light itself is imprisoned beneath. In health, she carries the grace of nobility.

Personality:
Gentle and curious, though tempered by years of pain and isolation, Ciana hides a quiet resilience. She fears what her power makes her, yet clings to the hope that she might use it to protect rather than destroy.

Backstory:
Born to privilege in the affluent town of Vinra, Ciana Van’Santen grew up the beloved daughter of a wealthy noble family. Her mother, remembered for her beauty and kindness, passed away when Ciana was only eleven, leaving her in the care of her father and a later a stepmother who regarded her more as a burden than a child of her own.

At sixteen, Ciana’s life was struck by the same mysterious sickness that had claimed her mother. Daylight became her enemy, its touch seared her skin, drained her energy, left her weak and feverish, and confined her to the shadows of her father’s home. Healers and scholars were brought from across the Reach, yet none could explain her wasting condition. By night she found fleeting reprieve, wandering the gardens under starlight.

That fragile existence shattered after an incident with the Baron’s son, whose unwanted advances ended in fire. The boy was badly burned, the gardens reduced to cinders, and Ciana, unconscious and bewildered, was accused of witchcraft. To protect her, her father confined her to her chambers, though her stepmother would have seen her locked away forever for daring to risk her reputation and status.

Salvation came in the form of a professor. Where others saw a curse, he recognised raw magic, that sunlight itself was drawn into Ciana, burning her alive from within. Without release, the power would consume her entirely. At her father’s desperate plea, Professor Maric took her under his care in secret. To the world, she had been spirited away to a hospital. In truth, she was carried to Elbion, her life hanging by a thread the entire journey.

Now settled in a manor arranged by her father, Ciana stands on the threshold of a new existence. Frail yet unbroken, she is learning to wield the very force that once threatened to destroy her.
