Appearance

Despite living on the verge of poverty, Canso always dresses to impress. He keeps both his hair and budding facial hair trimmed and cleaned, as well as always ensuring that his own personal hygiene never falls below acceptable public standards. He keeps his clothes - most of which are either blacks or dark greys, cleaned and pressed. His pride and joy - a long (and arguably melodramatic) black cape - is always his top priority when it comes to use of funds. The smallest tear will see him strutting to the nearest seamstress, even if it means going hungry for the night.

Skills and Abilities

Despite not being particularly prolific Canso can claim some knowledge of minor illusion magic. So long as the target is not large, he can trick the eye into either seeing things, or cause them to ignore something within view. The largest mass he's been able to cause to 'vanish' is 3kg, and he can cause illusions of an object up to 8kg.

He is also capable of using his magic to slightly alter the mind of his target. By this, he can fabricate events, or change the target's perception of a given event. This comes with a lot of red-tape, however: for one, he cannot do this to an unwilling target, and second, he cannot alter memories of events that he himself were not privy to. His alterations also cannot be too drastic, for example, if the target saw an urchin being kicked, he would not be able to cause the target to forget that someone had been kicked. He would, however, be able to alter the target's mind to believe that a dog had been kicked instead.

He would also consider his 'charming personality' to be a skill of his, but this is a highly debated claim.

Personality

Eccentric would likely be the first word someone would use to describe Canso. The young man has little concept of social parameters, nor does he take any lengths to ensure that he doesn't make those around him uncomfortable. His overwhelming presence means that he always strives to be the centre of attention, and is quite content to shove others out of the way if it means the spotlight falls on him.

Lying is something as natural as breathing to Canso. Whether or not he's telling the truth at any given time is unknown, and so most that know him rarely take anything that he says seriously. Those gullible enough to fall for whatever story of the day he's toting can often find themselves short a bit of coin the next morning.

Canso is also a rather obsessive flirt. Man, woman, non-human, it doesn't matter to him. Flattery is often the best way to get someone to drop their guard after-all. He's also not opposed to going past mere flattery, though most are smart enough to see his flirtation as hollow and end things before they progress further. Not that Canso minds, usually this gives him enough time to riffle through their pockets.

Biography & Lore

The story changes every time Canso tells it. Sometimes he's the son of a famous pirate, other times the long lost heir to a fallen kingdom.

The truth, however, is much less impressive.

His father was a cloth trader who often spent most of his time at sea with his goods. His mother worked at a local bakery, oftentimes either leaving a young Canso on his own. (She quickly learned that bringing him to work with her was a ill-fated endevour as he'd often steal the goods.) As such he spent most of his time at home reading, anything from grandiose adventures, or dramatized history. His favourite though was a string of books about a magician and thief who charmed any he came across.

When he was still just a boy his father and his crew were lost at sea. No one knows what happened to them, only that to assume that they live is folly. His put more strain on his mother, and he opted to try and get work himself. When that proved futile, he instead turned towards more sinister means, pickpocketing and petty thievery. More than once he was caught, and the fines placed on him only seemed to hurt his mother more. But he didn't stop, and overtime he became better and better at his craft, using manipulation and his budding magical talents to help him.

He was seventeen when his mother died as well. She'd contracted some kind of coughing sickness, but had remained asymptomatic for such a time that when it became obvious there was nothing that any healer could do. Now completely on his own Canso used the small inheritance his mother had squirreled away to buy equipment that a magician would need. He would become the same man as his childhood hero.

Or so he thought.

Truth be told learning how to preform magic tricks wasn't all that different from conning people, but it was still something that he struggled to learn. Why see some weirdo in a cape on the side of the street do faux-magic when the real deal could be seen by many others? Even when he incorporated his actual magic abilities into his routine they were often so minor that no one would pay him any mind. As such his main source of revenue was still found by profiting off of the backs of others, but he still attempts to wow the masses with his shows.
