Appearance
When it comes to her face, two things stand out - her orange tattoo markings and her missing ear. Overall, her face is round and feminine - with two chocolate brown eyes that have a soft look in them, covered by big eyelashes. Her lips are rosy. When it comes to scars - once she moves her ashen hair, one can see that her left ear is missing. Her ears are slightly less pointy than the elves, making it noticeable that she's a half-breed. Her hair reaches to her back and is kept in a tight bride as not to get in the way. When she undoes the bride, her hair falls and it becomes evident that it is thick and wavy. The tattoo markings are orange and are a few lines across the right side of her face. (As on the picture)
Caelynn wears baggy comfortable leather pants that are held in place only with a belt. Her torso is covered by a black cotton blouse with short sleeves, and on top of that - she has a hooded cape, green as to blend in with the forest. It reaches to a few inches away from her ankles. Her boots and gloves are both made of leather. She has two large pouches on her belt for different items and a longbow & quiver on her back. Her quiver can hold eight arrows at most.
Skills and Abilities
Skills
Caelynn is noticeable in a few aspects:
- Marksmanship - Usually a longbow, however she manages to hit her target with a crossbow and even makeshift projectiles such as rocks or dirt. She hits the mark.
- Tracking - Having fed herself as a hunter for a long while, Caen knows how to follow tracks, not only of animals.
- Survival - Of course she can survive. She had a whole period where she had to make-do with nothing but herself and her surroundings. That's what being an urchin is. Not only in the wild, but also in town. She can approach her situation with hardened experience and push through the worst conditions.
- First-Aid - She can bandage and do the usual processes.
- Almost Literate - She never got a real education, however she can read out the letters, even if it takes her a while to process what they mean.
Attributes:
- Strength [--] - Caen is not physically strong after all. She finds it hard to rely on brute strength.
- Endurance [+] - She can take a few hits and continue fighting, but when things get bloody and messy for her, she comes out as valuing life more than victory.
- Dexterity [+++] - That's something Caen is better in. From navigating difficult to go through places to avoiding blows and running - she can do it all.
- Intelligence [+] - Caen, although not educated, knows a lot in practice and little in theory. She can learn quick however, and mostly - she's aware of the situations she puts her in. She's street-smart.
- Wisdom [-] - Even though Caen has listened to stories and anecdotes through her travels, she hasn't always gotten the idea of them. She follows her own principles and rarely reminds herself of other people's teachings.
The only flaw and boon that might come from her race is that she's half-welcome to both human and elven communities. In the end, she has figured that xenophobia and race is one idiocy, and that it's all up to human decency if she'll be welcome anywhere.
Inventory & Belongings
Caen's immediate belongings are few and they often get replaced upon breaking or being lost, they are generally the cape on her back, pair of clothes and the bow with its quiver. In terms of gold - she's currently bareback. Overall, she has:
- Wealth: Currently, Caen is as poor as it gets. Copper coins come and go, but not much stays. She definitely hasn't accumulated or hidden away anything notable.
- Tommen's Villa, Iuk-'u Delta. - The villa, practically built and used by Tommen, a dwarf that is practically a father figure to Caen and probably the closes man alive on this world. As much as it is his, it is hers. She's welcome there any time.
Personality
Caelynn has a heavy wanderlust, perpetuated by her past. She is hard to trust people and also disloyal herself, making it hard for her to stick with somebody and even harder for somebody to prove himself to her. That makes much of her remain veiled in mystery when you first meet her. Caen's brave and talkative, ready to get along with people to get from point A to B. That doesn't mean she's very willing to stick around.
Morally, Caen follows the idea of a dwarf she met in her early childhood that stuck with her. She is good, first to herself, then to others - but she can't be good to all. That would be a drop of fresh water into an ocean of salt. Stealing from one to give to another is fine. "I am good to myself and my immediate circle."
In the end, she has ambitions. She wants to be remembered as a folk-hero, first true to herself, then to others. One that was immensely brave and left a marking to the world, gathering both coin and glory. What else does she have to look forward to? Her dead parents? Or that one boyfriend that deserted her? No, she has to look forwards to herself!
Biography & Lore
Caen knew who her parents were - her father was an elf, and her mother was a human, veiled in murky memories. Not long after her birth, and she was the first in the family, her mother disappeared for reasons that she still does not know, leaving her father single. However, he was an honorable man and stood with Caelynn. He must’ve loved her, although he couldn’t show it - constantly hurrying between odd jobs and hunting, he gave her a modest upbringing with the few coins he could spare. However, they still lived in a rundown shack in the bogs of the Iuk-’u Delta. That didn’t stop her from going outside of her home and experiencing the world for herself during her childhood, and Caen even gathered a couple of friends along the way. She rushed across the bogs, seeking trouble and what-not treasures that she rarely found.
However, things turns around swiftly like a lightning from a clear sky. One night, just as she was reaching her teenage years, her father didn't return from work. The next day, he didn't either and little Caen began to worry. Soon she understood that her father is never coming back. She was crushed.
Without a solid guardian, she took to the streets of her village. Sneaking to sleep in the boats at the river docks at night and feeding herself with any means necessary. That lasted for a few years. And just as she was in the middle of her adolescence, the burden of her street reputation fell upon her. A kidnapping happened, a child missing in the woods - and all of the village believed it was her. In the end, the truth came out and she was proven innocent, however the lack of trust remained and she didn't feel welcome there - even on the streets.
And she fled, to the wilds. At fifteen, you can't do much in the unwelcoming bogs. And she would've died, wasn't it for Tommen - and old grizzled ranger that took her in. He thought her the base of most she knows, and although being a dwarf, he treated her like his daughter, or more like a son.
Once she was of age, at nineteen, he decided it was time for her to experience life herself. With the most basic items, she sent her out to the world by herself. And she wasn't mad at him for that, even excited. One can't always rest in the shade of others.
Her adventures were just beginning, and they were a bumpy road - with its ups and downs. She wandered the world through towns and forests, sometimes starving and other times throwing coins. It's these ventures that led her to lose her ear, but they also led herself to her current status - an adventurer. And after one of the usual downs, her story began as it is.
