Quick Summary

The Galesongs are a group of bards that roam around Falwood with the goal of keeping the natural order of Falwood in check. They are primarily specialized in wind magic which are powered by instruments. They rarely interfere with the affairs of civilizations, and only seem to appear if the natural order of Falwood is endangered.

Overview

The Galesongs are an organization of bards that specialize in wind magic. They roam Falwood guarding the natural order. The members range in races and are culturally indifferent. They do not often let people into their inner sanctum deep within Falwood. Otherwise, they are amiable to people as long as they do not disturb the balance. Galesongs must follow the Code of Galesongs, which makes them all take a vow of silence except for the speaker and calm in nature. The group communicates with each other through writing, songs, or symbols.

Purpose

The Galesongs one and only purpose is to protect the natural order of Falwood, which makes them uninterested in civilization affairs unless the civilization threatens the natural order of Falwood. Other than that, the Galesongs make their own purpose.

Structure

There is no hierarchy within the ranks of the Galesongs, but they must follow the Code of Galesongs. The only special rank within the Galesongs is the Speaker, who is the only member allowed to speak vocally.

Lore

Not much is known about the Galesongs publicly, but some speculate they existed in secret for a long time. Records of the Galesongs date back to the Age of Expansion. All that is known currently is that there cannot be more than 10 members in the Galesongs at one time, all members except for the speaker must take a vow of silence, and they do not interfere with civilization often.

Instruments

There are three types of instruments the Galesongs primarily use three types of instruments to conduct wind magic: percussion, wind, and string. To even use wind magic, one must take a vow of silence (see rituals) which allows the user to control the wind with music.

Percussion

The fastest of the instruments, percussion instruments conduct wind when hit. These instruments create strong and fast bursts of wind. These instruments at maximum power can create a burst of wind which can blow away all things not held down away with one strike.

Wind

The strongest of the three, wind instruments must be blown into to control wind. These types of instruments are very powerful, especially in closer ranges. They have have the power to break rock and trees with one blow, but these instruments are very costly to the user, which requires them to have very strong lungs.

String

The most versatile of the types, these require hand movements to apply pressure to strings. Although these instruments are not as immediately powerful as their wind and percussion counterparts, they require less stamina.

Rituals

Vow of Silence

This ritual is required of all members of the Galesongs except for the speaker. This ritual enables the Galesong to control the wind with instruments. The steps of this ritual are very guarded, and is taboo among the Galesongs to inform others of the ritual.

Lament of the Forest

This ritual is rumored to be the last resort of the Galesongs to protect the forest. The ritual requires all the Galesongs present at one area. The gale songs then begin to play in harmony, causing the wind in the surrounding area to gather and swirl into a strong wind that has the capability to tear down anything within the radius. This method is very unsightly to the group since it is very destructive to the area, so this is their last resort to a problem that threatens the forest.

Code of Galesongs

1. The sacred balance of Falwood must keep balanced.
2. A Galesong must take the vow of silence excluding the speaker.
3. A Galesong must never kill on their own volition unless in self defense.
4. A Galesong must practice moderacy with material objects.
