Appearance

With her mother hailing from the tropical seas, in her Kirven form, Andromeda takes her colouring from the coral formations her pod call home. The majority of her scales are a pale but brilliant white, that fade through pale pastel colours such as coral, pinks, lilacs, before turning more vivid towards her tail which is a bright a cheerful orange. Being half human, her Kivren form is more humanistic even in this form, which often makes her a target for other Kivren who despise the reminder one of their own kind lay with a mortal man. It also means that instead of fins and scales to replace her hair, she keeps her long white locks in both forms. She has one long Dorsal fin that runs from between her shoulders to the base of her back, and another, smaller dorsal fin closer to the end of her tail. Her four sets of pelvic fins are a lot less rigid than the deep sea Kivren, whose fins are of more use to speed. Andromeda's meanwhile lend themselves more to the agility needed to race and navigate coral banks.

In her human form, her peach coloured eyes, mirrored with her brilliant white hair betray her as not all human. The natural pastel shades that translate from her Kivren form into her human form can at least be explained away as a young woman merely dying her hair. Other than that, she does appear like an average human woman, perhaps a bit more lithe and strong than a woman who has had an easy life, but typical of a woman who has spent her maturing years on the high seas helping to crew a ship.

Skills and Abilities

Changeling: Andromeda is able to change, painfully, between her human and Kirven forms. Whilst she can control when she changes on land, as soon as she enters saline water her body undergoes the change whether she is willing or not. Despite being half human, she still needs to shift and submerge herself in water at least once a week, or her skin begins to crack and flake away. When she is on land there is always a strong ache to be in the ocean and this can at times be a distraction.

Strength, speed and agility: In her human form Andromeda is stronger, faster, and more agile than the average human woman. However, as a Kivren she is a lot weaker and slower than her brethren. She does however make up for this by using more advanced weapons than the Kivren and her agility and tricks.

Siren's Song: Andromeda has a beautiful voice - she is a well known singer along the port cities and she earns a pretty penny when she graces peoples taverns and halls. Even when she doesn't consciously add her wishes to her songs, she can mesmerise a crowd with her voice. The tale and feelings in the song are felt by all who hear it as if it were their own joy, revenge, sadness or loneliness. This can drive many a man to do something reckless. This power is more potent when she is in her Kivren form, and it can render a man unable to take control of his own body, causing him to do anything in their power to get to the source of the music, including drowning themselves.

Lover's Touch: A unique side-effect to her dual human and Kivren nature is that, her touch holds a similar power to her song in her Kivren form. When touching someone she can issue them a very basic command and the person will carry out her orders. The length of time this spell lasts varies but currently no longer lasts more than a minute. People who have suffered it are often heard to say they don't remember a thing about their time under her spell. This is easier to do on humans, especially those with no magical inclination. She has had limited her minor success with mages, who get a sense something is overcoming them and can fight it depending on their own magical abilities.

Screech: Like all singers, Andromeda has a strict control over her vocal chords. Unlike other things, her range exceeds that of a normal human and can go to sonic sound levels in dire times. The force of the sound can damage or stun opponents and has been known to shatter some metals.

Personality

Andromeda was raised by pirates, and as such she has adopted a wickedly dark sense of humour with a side order of dripping sarcasm. She likes to play rough and she likes to make people feel uncomfortable, at times causing her to be accused of being mean and spiteful. This is only aggravated by the constant call to the ocean which plays like an eternal drumbeat in the back of her mind. Like most pirates however, she does have a strict code of personal conduct that she holds herself to: look out for number one. She is confident in herself, fickle in her loyalties and prefers not to be tied down for too long, instead wandering from port to port.

Biography & Lore

Her parents story was a tale as old as time itself: a pirate and a legendary watery love who never should have been. After one whirlwind night of passion, the devastated captain of The Siren never saw his lover again. Nine months later he had almost convinced himself it had been nowt but a dream, that was until the water spat out a babe onto his deck. Captain Randal Barbarossa was in no doubt that the child was his, and neither were his wary crew. Plucking the babe from the decks he took her into his cabin without a word.

Andromeda was raised as the Captain's Daughter, but not a beloved one. Looking at her was a painful reminder of the only woman Randal had ever loved and to protect himself would act harshly with the young girl, and then would feed her a sudden sweet. The whiplash parenting meant from a young age, Andromeda decided she was best off on her own. The crew were more than happy to oblige in her voluntary seclusion from the rest of them; many had been on the ship the day the watery depths gave her to their captain and superstition ran high amongst them.

But, like with all pirates, Andromeda over the years would at least earn their respect, and a few of them her love. As her powers became evident with her heritage, the Captain began to utilise her form their raiding missions. In her Kivren form, Andromeda would lure unsuspecting ships into dangerous traps where the crew would be able to raid and pillage to their black hearts content. She would also entertain the crew of an evening with her singing, and when tempers rose as they were oft to do, it was Anne's song that would calm things down. It was an earned kinship.

At the age of 18 her father died. No-one had thought about it, but their Captain had been fighting the Siren's Song he had once heard years ago for all these long years. Unable to take it anymore, he threw himself overboard. Though she wasn't grief stricken, Andromeda did believe it wise to leave the ship life behind her and start out on her own - the last thing a new captain needed was the last ones daughter hanging around as an obvious usurper. She parted ways amicably and even now meets with the crew when they dock to share a pint of ale.

For the last few years, Andromeda has been making a name for herself along the port towns as an extremely talented singer, one who could almost bring the stories themselves to life.
