Appearance

To the average observer, Adam is by no means memorable. He is a little taller than the average inhabitant of Healdwicce, his hair a little thicker and his eyes a little lighter greener; but this is not immediately discernable. He is better looking than the average man, some would even call him handsome, but he is never the best looking man in an alehouse and is never the worst. His figure is lithe and athletic, but his body doesn't ripple with muscles. His smile is bright and warm despite his missing front left tooth. He carries himself with upright posture and with confidence, though it is obvious by the slight forward roll of his shoulders that he has not been trained to act like a lord. To be short, Adam is the kind of man who is briefly noted as appearing capable and above average, but is quickly discounted as nothing special. At least, not at first glance.

As a bastard son of one of Healdwicce's countless alehouse wenches, Adam has no steady source of income and any possessions he has have been hard come by. He wears a piece of hardened leather armour that covers his torso and shoulders, taken from a stray bandit that he and his fellows killed, over a grey, hand-me-down gambeson that appears to be perhaps a size too big. He was gifted a pair of leather bracers and had the good sense to steal a decent pair of leather boots the last time he was in Cient. His breeches are slightly greyer than his gambeson, and have holes beginning to form near his right knee. Thrust inside his leather belt (also stolen) is an iron sword with a wooden hilt and a throwing axe, poorly weighted. As a man of no land, no status, no renown and no coin, Adam has equipped himself with whatever he could get his hands on, by nefarious means or otherwise.

Skills and Abilities

Natural athleticism: Adam is quick, has decent muscular endurance and picks up most physical actions quite easily. Which is fortunate, because he has received no formal instruction in any type of combat.
Intelligent: As a landless man with no family or wealth, Adam is not an educated man. However, the young man possesses an aptitude towards mental pursuits such as military tactics or reading and writing, should he ever find someone to teach him and the willingness to learn.
Archery: This is the one practical skill that Adam has learned up to this point, apart from drinking ale. He is a pretty good shot with the longbow, able to hit a moving target more often than not.

Personality

Adam is a man characterised by his moods. At one time he can be social, warm and quick to mirth; at another he can be quiet and brooding, his face set in a frown and his eyes cast to the horizon. In day to day activities he is easy going and slow to anger, but when roused he quickly turns to brutal, effective violence or savage, immasculating ridicule. Adam has a quick, logical mind and can solve most problems quickly and effectively, though he is easily confused by emotions and matters of the heart, and often overthinks them. Those who go to Adam for emotional support are often left confused and hurt by his inability to give them the comfort they need, and instead are treated to several elaborate, logical solutions to solve their problem. Adam despises weak-minded people or those who deal in pity as their emotional currency.

Biography & Lore

Adam is a young man and as such, has not achieved much of importance in his life. At least, not yet. His mother was an alehouse wench who died not long after he was born. His father is unknown, likely a paying customer who never bothered coming to Healdwicce again, and who could blame him.

Adam spent most of his childhood surviving; running errands for older townsfolk for bread or a copper, and stealing what wouldn't likely be missed. At age sixteen, the age when a boy became a man, he received his customary sword, and thus his only means to a livelihood. Over the last three years, he has been irregularly employed as a merchant's guard and has traveled throughout the Backwater Kingdoms, a collection of petty kingdoms and baronies on the edge of civilisation that are constantly in a state of war, or banding together to throw back the latest invasion of orc clans or barbarian tribes. Though he has fought his fair share of bandits, thankfully he has not been truly tested or in great fear of his life.

At least, not yet.
